9/16/09- Paula's Exercise/Eating Journal - Wednesday

We  talk a lot about exercise and what foods are healthy in a clean eating plan, but where does alcohol fit into all this?  First and foremost, obviously, drinking or not drinking alcohol is a personal choice based on many variables.  That being said, there are many contradicting studies about the benefits of red wine (in moderation).  Some other studies suggest that if you're looking for weight loss you shouldn't drink at all.

Many studies suggest 5 oz. of red wine provides you with heart healthy benefits, but also with 130 calories per glass.  That must be included in your total daily calorie count.  More than one, 5 oz glass for women (men are allotted 10 oz) can be a detriment to weight loss with increased calories in your diet.  Inhibition from alcohol can cause increase appetite and non-typical food choices.

Try making wine consumption a ' special treat'.  Savor the flavors and smells.  Pair wine choices carefully with your meal.  Make it all an experience.

F.Y.I- 5 oz red/white wine=11-130 calories, 12 oz american beer= 150 calories, 1.5 oz liqeurs ( Bailys, Kalua) =150 calories, 1.5 oz. liquor( 80 proof like vodka, rum)=100 calories, stawberry daiquri + 250 calories, 5oz. mojito= 160 calories and redbull and vodka= 170 calories.
